In his rematch with Mauricio Lara, WBA Champion Leigh Wood will attempt to regain his title. The fight was controversial.
In their first fight in February, Lara, a heavy-handed fighter, was able to stop Wood with a left hook.
After the fight, Wood was clearly ahead on the scorecards. He then activated his contractual option for a potential return at Manchester.
At the weigh-in on Friday, Lara failed to meet the 126-pound limit. Due to safety and health reasons, he was ordered by the BBOC to make weight no less than 128.5 pounds.
Due to this, Lara’s WBA title was removed from him. It will only be available to Wood if he can avenge his loss.
According to Ben Davison, Wood’s trainer, the terms of the contract were made to ensure the fighter’s safety and happiness.
He added that if the various parties still support the contract, the rematch between Wood and Lara will be carried out.
