Smith, Emile Rowe recovered in time for a 15-minute cameo in the win over Leicester, but Takehiro Tomiyasu’s calf injury will keep him out for the foreseeable future.
On Sunday, Arteta’s inspired side did not pick up any new concerns, and the Gunners manager may be tempted to persist with the same starting XI as Cedric Soares continues to fill in for Tomiyasu.
Smith Rowe is in line to take over on the left side from Gabriel Martinelli, although Arteta may want to be cautious about the England international’s fitness as he returns to his’super-sub’ role.
Meanwhile, Liverpool were given a worry when Mohamed Salah departed the Amex field with a foot ailment, but the attacker’s problem is not serious and he might still play in the midweek match.
